Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics J. Keith Snyder from the Levittown Public Schools was honored with the Athletic Administrator Award for Chapter 8 of the New York State Athletic Administrators Association. He was awarded with a plaque at the Todd Heimer Luncheon at Westbury Manor on June 14.

The award is presented to a member of the NYSAAA who has made an exceptional contribution to athletics over the years, who has positively expressed the influence and promotion of Athletics and has displayed devotion and idealism to Athletics through the NYSAAA. Mr. Snyder grew up in Levittown and attended Cherrywood Elementary School, The Little Red Schoolhouse, Gardiners Avenue School, Jonas E. Salk Middle School and General Douglas MacArthur High School. He has served as Athletic Director in the Levittown Public Schools for 19 years. Among his many responsibilities, he manages equipment needs, discusses new course offerings with staff, coordinates facility updates in physical education locker rooms and gymnasiums, budgets for the district’s Physical Education and Health department, and coordinates teacher schedules. He is also responsible for overseeing the Athletic Department.

The honor was particularly rewarding for Snyder because his father, Donald Snyder, received the same award in 1987. Donald is the retired athletic director and football coach at Farmingdale High School and was present for the special award ceremony.

“It was an honor being recognized by my fellow Athletic Administrators,” Snyder said. “We have so many student-athletes that we are responsible for. Our hope is to provide positive avenues for students to display sportsmanship as well as responsibility in route to becoming solid citizens. Athletic participation provides that avenue. I’m proud to represent the Levittown School District which has a steep tradition in athletics and academics as well in the fine arts.”
