The Village of Stewart Manor held its annual water balloon fight and parade last Thursday on a scorching hot Fourth of July. County residents from all over congregated in the small community with coolers of water balloons on hand to throw at passing firetrucks who in return would throw water balloons back.
The parade route, which seeped into some parts of Floral Park, began at Stewart Avenue and North Dover Parkway, down Covert and Salisbury Avenues, continued onto Dover Parkway and Tulip Avenue, finally concluding in front of the Stewart Manor Fire Department headquarters. The firetrucks were escorted through the village by the Nassau County Police Department, motorcycles, and a marching band. Afterward, a barbecue was held in the municipal parking lot next to the firehouse where parade-goers could partake in some food, drinks, shirts, and raffles.
Some of the fire departments that participated in the water filled festivity this year were Stewart Manor, Floral Park, Bellerose Terrace, Mineola, South Floral Park, Garden City, Garden City Park, Floral Park Centre, New Hyde Park, Manhasset-Lakeville, Franklin Square, Uniondale, Malverne and Great Neck.
