On July 22 at 6:21 p.m., as a violent storm began to rip through Nassau County, the Hicksville Fire Department was alerted to a house struck by lightning and on fire at the intersection of Norte Dame Avenue and Desmond Place.
Arriving units found a fire in the attic. The Syosset Fire Department was called to the scene for a ladder truck. Crews extinguished the fire that heavily damaged the three-story home. Across the street on Desmond Place fire fighters secured an area around a downed power line that was burning in a parking lot. The power authority was quickly on the scene and shut down the power. Both incidents were under the command of Robert Chiz Chief of the Department.
