A 30-year veteran of the Garden City Police force and a multi-award winning officer who returned to the department after a short stint with the MTA Police have both earned promotions.
Trustee Mark Hyer, as appointed member of the board of police commissioners, recently administered the oaths of office to Lieutenant Kevin Jacobsen and Sergeant Keith Wehr during a brief ceremony in the village hall boardroom.

Jacobsen was hired by the Garden City Police Department in June 1989. He worked in the Patrol Unit and was assigned to the Tactical Unit in June 1998. While assigned to the tactical Unit, he became certified in radar and laser speed enforcement, as well as truck weight enforcement. He was promoted to sergeant in July 2008. Due to his prior EMS experience (EMT Critical Care since 1987), he has been assigned as the department’s and village’s AED coordinator, NARCAN coordinator and liaison to the NYU ambulances as well as the Nassau County Police Department ambulances.
Wehr joined the department in 1997 as a police aide. He was hired as a police officer for the MTA Police and subsequently returned to Garden City as a police officer in January 2007. One of the highlights of his return was being able to work alongside his father, Officer Everett Wehr, who worked for the department for 38 years. During his tenure with this department, the younger Wehr has received numerous awards including the Nassau County Police Chiefs Distinguished Service Award, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Award and the Town of Hempstead Award, which he received twice.
