This is a response to the Tribune’s ongoing opioid epidemic series, which started on July 17.
I just read, with much interest, your article about addicts sharing their stories. I am the mother of a recovering heroin addict right next door in East Meadow.
On March 6 of this year, my daughter is six years drug-free. I know we are one of the lucky ones. I wanted to share with you the treatment program she went through. It’s called Dynamite Youth Community (www.dycinc.org).
It is geared toward adolescents and young adults, ages 16-25. The program is a one-year residential program in Upstate New York and a two-year outpatient program in Brooklyn. She competed the program in 2016 and continued working there as a community outreach coordinator and intake counselor. She is now in school full time and works there part time as a parent group leader.
In the years, my daughter has been a member of DYC, there have been many other members from all over Long Island, including Levittown.
