The Seaford School District announced the appointment of Kevin Witt as the new director of physical education, health and athletics. He comes to Seaford with 17 years of experience as a teacher and an administrator.
In Seaford, Witt will supervise the physical education and health programs from kindergarten through 12th grade, including observing and supporting teachers. He will also oversee all aspects of the athletics program at Seaford Middle School and Seaford High School, which features more than a dozen sports.
For the past five years, Witt has been the assistant principal of physical education, health, athletics and security at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Queens. Prior to that, he worked at Richmond Hill High School in Queens, where he taught physical education and health for a decade and was coordinator of those programs for two years.
Witt, a Merrick resident, holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from SUNY Cortland, a master’s degree in health education from CUNY Lehman College and administrator certification from the College of St. Rose. He played football, basketball and baseball for Mepham High School and rugby at the collegiate level.
“I am ecstatic to be here as a member of the Vikings family, and everybody has been so welcoming,” he said. “Seaford has such a rich history of success and I look forward to continuing the tradition of pride and achievement in these wonderful, respected programs.”
Seaford has one of the top athletic programs in Nassau County. Last year, the Vikings won the Nassau County Division II boys wrestling title, finished runner-up in varsity football, one of the best in varsity baseball, a respectable softball team and other top programs within the school’s system.
In 2018, the Vikings varsity football team captured the Division IV championship. It remains one of the preseason favorites entering the 2019 season.
