General Douglas MacArthur High School’s Kara DeBlaiso is no joke on the soccer field. She is a force to be reckoned with, whether the team is home or away.

The Conference Player of the Year and All-County star was also nominated for the All-State and All-Long Island teams, too. She was even nominated to be among those entered for the best field player in Nassau County.

DeBlaiso is known to be one of the most prolific scorers in Nassau County, largely thanks to 24 goals during the 2019, in addition to four assists. Now, the young star is preparing for the next stage of her life and spoke with the Levittown Tribune about her journey.

Q: What was the soccer season like for you?
A:  It’s been one great ride. I truly enjoyed every moment of it. It wasn’t the exact outcome that I expected it to be, but it definitely made me proud of my team to make it and win the county title. That’s what we’ve been fighting for throughout all three seasons.

Q: What does it mean to you to have so much success?
A: It truly does mean a lot as an athlete. As the season went on, my confidence went up. I learned more. I try to teach others more, like the younger girls.

Q: What do you feel your personal keys to success are?
A: I take it game-by-game. I focus on what my game plan is for those games. I don’t think about any other things, like the next opponent. I just take it day-by-day.

Q: What are your goals moving forward?
A: I definitely want to play soccer in college. I want to make myself better as an athlete. I feel like it also makes me a better person. I’m looking at some schools. I want to be a nurse, so hopefully, I’ll go to a nursing school.

Q: How did you get started playing soccer?
A: I got started playing soccer when I was about 4 years old. My mom introduced me to the sport when I was younger, and I loved it from the beginning. I always wanted to go play. When I was younger, it was just a game. Now, it’s more like my life.

Q: What does it mean to you to be nominated for so many accolades?
A: It means a lot. I don’t really think about what I’m going to get as the season goes on. But it definitely means that I’ve achieved something.
