For many Long Islanders, the holiday season officially begins with the Long Island Choral Society’s performance of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah. This year the special event takes place on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 5 pm ($30 adults, $10 youth) at Christ Episcopal Church, Manhasset. In addition, there will be an open dress rehearsal on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. ($10 at the door). Tickets for both events are available at 516-580-1777 as well as online at lics.org.
The Long Island Choral Society has performed Handel’s Messiah (part one and Hallelujah Chorus) for thousands of Long Islanders over the course of 90 years. It holds a special place in our repertoire and we look forward each year to sharing it with the Long Island community.
The enduring legacy of Long Island’s Messiah has been sustained by conductor, Meredith E. Baker, who has shared her special conducting talents and high performance standards for 40 of those 90 years.
This performance of Messiah will be showcased by the chorus in top form accompanied by professional orchestra and soloists, including Katrina L. Montagna, soprano, Ashley Mulcahy, mezzo soprano, Bryce Westervelt, tenor, and Mike Pitocchi, baritone.
LICS has been part of the Long Island arts and cultural landscape for 90 years. Its mission is to present world class performances of classical and contemporary choral works to enrich, educate and entertain audiences. In addition, LICS rewards and encourages aspiring young musicians through the annual Young Artist Competition, now in its 39th year.
