MHS Girls Swim Win Team Sportsmanship Award

Swim 4The Manhasset High School (MHS) girls swim team completed one of their most successful seasons in program history recently at the overall NYS Public School and NYS Federation Swimming and Diving Championships held in Ithaca, NY. At the state meet, Manhasset’s seven state qualifiers (Emma Anderson, Samantha Dring, Sofia Giordano, Gaby McIntyre, Kasey Mulholland, Sara Plunkett and Francesca Raimondi) led the team to a ninth place NYS Public School and 11th place NYS Federation finish. This is a program best finish for the girls team.

Swim 5 768x1024 1The 2019-20 regular season was another strong campaign for the Indians. The MHS team finished 6-2 in Nassau’s top ability based conference. Unlike previous seasons all six of Manhasset’s victories were lopsided contests with the Indians dominating from the first event. The two losses were in highly competitive meets against Bellmore Merrick (2019 Conference Champ) and Garden City (2019 Overall County Champ). Both losses came down to the very last event of the meet. On senior night, Oct. 11, the Indians gave Garden City all they could handle bringing the dual meet down to the finish of the last relay. As the relay came down to the wire, the SRO crowd stood to see which team would get the touch to decide the result of the meet. Manhasset would fall a yard short of their upset bid.

The Indians carried the momentum from the Garden City meet into what would be a historic post season. In the divisional round, Manhasset scored four swimmers in each event (in many cases the top-10) to win with the 2019 Division B Championship. A week later, the Indians had one of their top county meets in program history. At the Nassau County Championship, Manhasset qualified for 13 individual Championship finals swims. For the first time in program history the Girls were awarded as the 2019 Nassau County Team Sportsmanship Recipient.
