Garden City native Joe Iconis reunites with Be More Chill‘s George Salazar for a series of Two Player Game concerts at Feinstein’s/54 Below from May 2 to 11. Back by popular demand, the duo will perform songs from their album, Two Player Game, and more at the famed New York City supper club.
Drama Desk-nominated actor Salazar is known for roles in The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, Godspell and Jonathan Larson’s tick tick BOOM, and really made a name for himself as Michael Mell in the cult sensation Be More Chill, which closed last year on Broadway. Salazar’s performance of “Michael In The Bathroom” was a viral hit follow the show’s original run at Two River Theater in New Jersey and propelled the musical to the Off-Broadway and subsequently Broadway stage. He recently played Seymour in the Pasadena Playhouse production of Little Shop of Horrors.
Composer and lyricist Iconis, who spoke to Long Island Weekly last summer, achieved great critical success with Be More Chill. The musical will open on London’s West End in February and in Chicago in April. Iconis has also written Love In Hate Nation, Broadway Bounty Hunter, The Black Suits, which takes place on Long Island, and his work was featured prominently in season two of the NBC television show Smash. His unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson musical is in development with La Jolla Playhouse; Salazar performs two songs from the show, “Song of the Brown Buffalo” and “Kaboom,” on Two Player Game.
Iconis, who has been nominated for Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Tony awards, as well as received a Jonathan Larson grant dedicated to the memory of the Rent creator and Adelphi alum, found his love of musical theater as a kid in Garden City and began his theater career as the musical director for the Garden City Community Theatre.
Released by Ghostlight Records in 2018, Two Player Game was born out of the friendship and collaborative spirit of Iconis and Salazar. The album features songs from Iconis’ past and future musicals, as well as other original songs and tunes from shows that never came to be. The concerts will also feature new material.
As proven by past Two Player Game concerts at Feinstein’s/54 Below, the duo have a hilarious rapport and an unstoppable energy you won’t want to miss.
