COVID-19 has claimed many lives recently; it is with deepest sorrow we announce that on the afternoon of April 7, it claimed Lucian Valentino Marino, at the age of 85.
He was famous amongst family and friends for his uncanny ability to “light up any room” with his bonhomie and good cheer. Yet it wasn’t his seemingly endless supply of puns and “dad” jokes that we… treasure… still, but the memory of his kindness, gentleness and the deep care he had for all who were lucky enough to have been touched by his life. In addition to his roles as loving husband and doting father and grandfather (and dedicated small business owner and writer), he was deeply involved in his community; for example: he served as eucharistic minister at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Manhasset for the 25+ years he lived in that town.
Lou, Dad, Uncle Lou (and occasionally “Lucy-Ann” for those who didn’t know how to pronounce Lucian) will be eternally remembered by his wife Rose Della Vecchia Marino, their children Richard, Catherine (and her husband, Robert) and Andrew, Lou’s grandchildren (Richard, Joseph and Elizabeth; Matthew, Robert and Christopher; and Christine and Bennett, respectively,) his nieces, nephews and cousins and their families, and the countless others who called him friend over the years and who mourn his sad passing now.
The family is not planning any public gatherings or services to mourn or celebrate his life currently because of the very disease that took him. We will have a memorial gathering for him after this cruel virus is behind us.
