The Nassau County Police Department reports the details of a rescue that occurred on June 23 at 10:45 a.m. in East Garden City.
According to police, officers responded to Covanta, located at 600 Merchants Concourse for a call for a male that fell through a roof. Upon arrival it was determined a worker fell through a hatch on the roof, falling approximately 20 feet onto another tier of roofing. Emergency Services Unit officers responded to the scene and with the assistance of the Westbury Fire Department were able to remove the victim, 53, utilizing the fire departments ladder truck and rescue basket. The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious head trauma. A police medic, while assisting with the rescue, suffered a minor injury and was transported to an area hospital as well.
The investigation is ongoing.
