Strongheart Manor, former Today Show host Matt Lauer’s waterfront estate overlooking the Peconic River and Mashomack Preserve, is listed for sale in the Village of North Haven.
Built in 1902 on a 6.3-acre lot, this modernized 12-bedroom, 12-bathroom property with two guest houses has 14,000 square feet of living space, 300 feet of direct water frontage, a 240-foot-long deep-water dock, and a 60-foot heated waterfront in-ground pool.
“This gated compound has complete privacy, where serenity and tranquility abound and is like an island unto itself,” according to the listing, which boasts a sandy beach along a waterfront pond with bridge and island-inspired tea house.
The home features a family room, office, study, gym, library, great room, and art studio. Outside it has an attached three-car garage, outdoor fireplace pavilion, and screened-in porch spanning the entire length of the house. It comes equipped with six fireplaces, geothermal heating, and a workshop.
Lauer bought the sprawling gated compound for $36.5 million four years ago from actor Richard Gere, according to the New York Post. The ex-TV host has been living there since he was fired following allegations of sexual misconduct.
The asking price is $43.9 million, not including the annual property taxes of $145,825.
The property is located near the South Ferry to Shelter Island, nearby downtown Sag Harbor, and a short drive from the Southampton Long Island Rail Road station. It’s located in the Sag Harbor School District.
The real estate agent listed for the proepry is Susan Breitenbach of the Corcoran Group, who can be reached at 631-875-6000.
