Farmingdale School District students exemplify all that young scholars are capable of. Joshua Stanton, a fourth grader from Farmingdale School District, placed third at the state level in the poetry category of a writing contest sponsored by the Women’s Club of Farmingdale.
“The start of the school year was certainly not without its struggles given everything it took to safely reopen,” stated Superintendent Paul Defendini. “The news of Joshua’s success in the writing contest is a testament to the talent and resilience of our Farmingdale students and to our teachers who foster this creativity.”
Stanton is a fourth grade student at Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School. The Women’s Club of Farmingdale received two pieces of work written by Joshua for consideration on the local level. The first of Stanton’s two entries was considered in the story category and the second one in the poetry category. At the local level, Stanton was awarded third place and first place, respectively, for his compositions. On the state level, Joshua was awarded third place in the poetry category for his work. The state level writing competition was sponsored by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. The poem that afforded Joshua third place at the state level is titled ‘Ode to Joy.’
