Hempstead Town Supervisor Clavin Reports To Rotary

For the past several years, the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club has welcomed Donald X. Clavin, Jr., Hempstead Town Supervisor to report to club members and guests about the activities and concerns of Hempstead Town.

Clavin was elected Supervisor in Nov. 2019 following an 18-year career as Receiver of Taxes during which he was known to have helped thousands of homeowners to lower their taxes.

On Monday, Jan. 25, 12:15 p.m., via Zoom, Clavin will update Rotary members and guests on activities throughout his current term as Town Supervisor. His report will include the impact of Nassau’s property tax reassessment and how the town can help you challenge your taxes. All are invited to attend this virtual presentation.

Clavin’s election as Hempstead Town Supervisor signified the next step in his public service journey serving America’s largest township.  During his tenure as Receiver of Taxes, Clavin has redefined the Receiver’s Office, hosting hundreds upon hundreds of free taxpayer forums in every Hempstead Town community. These “how-to” seminars have helped tens of thousands of taxpayers learn how to reduce their property tax burden through money-saving exemptions and by challenging their property tax assessments.

A Legacy of Innovation

Clavin brings a legacy of innovation to the Hempstead Town Supervisor’s Office—as Receiver, he transformed the Hempstead Town Tax Office into a model for municipal tax offices across the region. He is bringing the same type of innovation to the supervisor’s job. Clavin’s vision for the supervisor’s position includes environmentally responsible and sustainable growth; intergovernmental cooperation; streaming of operations; a major infrastructure upgrade initiative focusing on major roadway repaving projects and parks overhaul; encouragement of “next generation” home development; enhancing services for persons with special needs; improving online town services; and collaborative initiatives with local universities and colleges, focused on retaining young workers in the Hempstead township.

Clavin is a lifelong resident of the Town of Hempstead, where he and his wife are raising their two daughters and son. His mother was the first woman to every serve as Valley Stream Village Trustee, and his father served as District Court Judge.

As 2021 works through the pandemic and a haze of some national discontent, it is reassuring to engage in the positivity reflected by Clavin’s accomplishments throughout his term as Hempstead Town Supervisor. And as our Rotary Club President Diane Marmann      reminds, “Rotary has never been better.” Our club looks toward this new year with great hope along with its return to our regular lunch meetings at our Garden City Hotel.

To join Rotary’s virtual Zoom meeting featuring Clavin, call Marmann at 516-741-8340 or email diane.marmann@gmail.com.
