Many of you may have already seen the barricades surrounding, and then the removal of the three large trees on the Village Green. In early August, during tropical storm Isaias, the three trees on the Village Green lost several large limbs and branches. The center tree lost a substantial limb and many branches, which exposed a degree of hollowing of the center of the trunk of this tree. Because of the storm damage to the trees, the village consulted with H. Edward Olsen, a licensed and certified arborist, to evaluate all of the trees for their condition and safety.
Unfortunately, the trees could not be saved and they were recently taken down. The board of trustees, with the assistance of a professional landscape design professional, will be evaluating tree replacement and landscape options that best suit the Village Green.
Just a reminder to visit the Farmingdale Village website at www.farmingdalevillage.com to access the Village Code. Click “Village Code” below the header on the home page. The Village code is searchable (on the top right), check out the new laws posted or browse through the sections/index.
The following is an excerpt from the village code regarding Snow Emergencies (98-16) to remind and inform the community regarding snow emergencies.
“All Village streets. The parking of vehicles is prohibited on all public highways for an 18-hour period upon declaration of a snow emergency by the mayor. A snow emergency shall be deemed to exist and the mayor shall have the right to declare a snow emergency, from the time when there are at least two inches of snow on the ground.”
In residential neighborhoods, please remove your cars from the street so our DPW crews can do the most effective job of clearing the snow. Cars left in the street are subject to ticketing when snow emergencies are declared. So please remember during snow storms to try to park cars off the streets (even on a lawn), so DPW crews can do their job plowing curb-to curb and also clear fire hydrants near homes. Safety and effective snow clearing are priorities—thank you in advance for your cooperation.
During and after snow storms, our DPW department works diligently clearing our roads and parking lots in order to make roadways passable and to open the business district and enable commuters to get to work in the shortest time possible. We thank all of the DPW staff for their tireless efforts and truly appreciate their hard work and dedication.

Please mail payments or use the drop box to the left of the front door. We anticipate opening to the public on Monday, March 1. In case of emergency, please call the fire department dispatch number, 516-531-9820. Thank you for your cooperation.
Some have asked about the status of the Route 109 repaving. A letter was put together locally and passed on to Senator Kevin Thomas’ office. We have learned that his office was in contact with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and they will continue to keep an eye on the progress (as we are also doing). The DOT will keep Senator Thomas’ office informed if there are any problems—and we will in turn keep you posted with any updates.
Just a reminder to shop and dine local and stay safe, “we are in this together.” On behalf of the board of trustees and myself, we look forward to a brighter 2021. As always, the village website (www.farmingdalevillage.com) is a great resource so check it often for information, news and bulletins.
