The Rockville Centre Breast Cancer Coalition (RVCBCC) held its first Golf and Tennis Outing on Monday, June 21 at the Seawane Golf Club in Hewlett. Money raised from the event goes directly toward helping the organization’s recipients: women and men diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022.
The golf and tennis outing was the first fundraiser that the coalition has been able to host in more than a year. Unfortunately, the pandemic has not stopped the influx of women diagnosed with breast cancer — the coalition has seen an increase in women reaching out for help, so this fundraiser will help those who face this diagnosis in the coming year.
The RVCBCC is a non-profit outreach program for Southern Nassau residents who are living with a breast cancer diagnosis. Its mission is to provide support services and financial support to those in the community who are managing through treatment and its impact on their lives.
Since the coalition was founded more than four years ago, RVCBCC has expanded its outreach outside the Village of Rockville Centre to include more than 37 towns in Southern Nassau County, helping more than 100 women and their families. In addition, the RVCBCC granted $10,000 to Memorial Sloan Kettering for Metastatic Breast Cancer Research.
Recently, the group added three pillars to its outreach program: RVCBCC Cares, to help those who are in financial crisis; RVCBCC Metastatic Fund, to financially help those recipients who have a long term cancer diagnosis; and RVCBCC Bereavement Fund, to help families of recipients that have lost their battle with breast cancer.
Co-presidents Peg McDonald and Erin O’Sullivan are long time Rockville Centre residents who both grew up in town. Together they committed to building the RVCBCC and volunteer their time to ensure that the programs and services provided continue to support their community and the men and women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. All proceeds benefit the RVCBCC and the services they provide to the community.
