Matthew Jordan Receives Garden City Foundation’s Business Award

The Garden City Foundation is thrilled to report that Matthew Jordan, Garden City High School senior, has received the foundation’s 2021 “Althea Robinson Excellence in Business Education Scholarship.”

Jordan was awarded the scholarship to assist with his college needs in the amount of $1,000 at the high school’s Senior Awards Ceremony on June 17.

Selected by the GCHS Business Education and Guidance departments, Jordan is the student judged to best exemplify the spirit of the Garden City business community by achieving superior academic success in the areas of business and beyond. Established in 1992, this will be the 29th presentation of this prestigious scholarship.

A four-year member of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), Jordan has served as Club Historian. He is the recipient of numerous business awards and won competitions which include earning first place in Entertainment and Sports Marketing for FBLA. He was also awarded the Financial Literacy Scholarship for an exemplary score on the Financial Literacy Exam in Finance class.

A member of both the National and Spanish Honor Societies, Jordan is an AP Scholar Award winner and has achieved four years on the prestigious Principal’s List.

For being so supportive throughout high school, Jordan is quick to give a “huge thank you” to his three high school business teachers, Reid Sclafani, Dr. Erin McKinstry and Steve Billelo.

“They are the ones who sparked my interest in business, and I could not thank them enough for that,” Jordan said.

He plans to continue his studies in the area of business at the University of Florida in the fall.

The Garden City Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization. In addition to the annual presentation of the “Althea Robinson Excellence in Business Education Scholarship,” its other mission is to assist residents in need and support and promote Garden City’s civic and charitable organizations as funds may permit.
