While they’re all adorable, we’re shining the spotlight on sweet Samantha, a senior cat who recently lost her lifelong companion of 14 years. Please read Samantha’s story and how you can help these amazing animals find their forever homes!
Available for adoption at the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter
Buddy is a 7-year-old Domestic Shorthair who sadly had to leave his old home when his owner passed away. He is extremely outgoing, affectionate, and adventurous! Buddy loves to wander around and explore, and he loves to meet new friends too! Buddy has spent time with children as young as 3-years-old and got along well with them. He has only ever been the sole pet in the house, but given a little bit of time, he can likely adjust to new furry siblings.
Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster. If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two!
If you are interested in meeting Buddy or the rest of the kitty clan, please call 631-360-7575.

When 2-year-old Meru (Adoption #D48071) found herself in NSALA’s care last year, she was unsure of her new surroundings. An apparent mistrust of humans led staff to believe she’d never received tender care from a loving hand prior to her arrival. Time in NSALA’s quietest space, surrounded by devoted humans soon unearthed the whimsy that had been trapped inside this fun young beauty. Now you’ll find Meru craving attention and playtime from her favorite human pals. Meru isn’t crazy about cat friends, so she’s looking for a home where she can feel free to be uniquely herself in the safety of experienced hands. She’ll thrive in an engaging, predictable family with children 16 years old and older who can make her feel safe and loved.
One-year-old Angola’s (Adoption #BF3619) days of fending for herself outside are over now that she’s safely tucked into a comfy bed in a very quiet space. NSALA is looking for someone to provide her a peaceful life and all the time she needs to learn to trust humans again. A cat-experienced home with older children will provide this wonderful lady with a great start to her new life. As shy as she can seem with her human friends, she’s completely comfortable around felines. Angola isn’t looking for an exciting life; she dreams of a peaceful spot in which she can be lazy with a caring family gently reassuring her she is safe and home.
**Double Adoption** Twin tabbies Princess Peach (Adoption #H211028) and Rosalina (Adoption #H211031) have already been rescued — locally! The hero they’re now waiting for is a furever family to come discover them and carry them off to their very first home. At first timid, these cute-as-can-be five-month-old kittens are easily won over with some small talk and treats. Once you’ve made that connection, they offer their full hearts in the most loving way. If you’ve been hoping for a matching set of tabbies to bring home to your family, your search is over with Princess Peach and Rosalina! At North Shore Animal League America they like to say when you adopt, you’re saving two lives: the animal you take home and the one you’ve helped make space for more rescues. When you do a double kitten adoption, you’re saving four lives!
**Double Adoption** Five-month-olds Luzon (Adoption #H211035) and Moorea (Adoption #H211036) were rescued from the very scary outdoors, but now enjoy the a guaranteed safe life indoors. You’ll find these bonded siblings wrapped around each other for reassurance, but an experienced human will know how to coax the fear out of them and offer them tender moments of gentle ear rubs they’ll enjoy while they settle into the safety of their first home. A predictable setting with children 8 years old and above will help them learn the patterns of their new lives. Luzon is already intrigued by toys—his first ones! Moorea is courageously sprinting around the room intent on discovering her new world.
Four-year-old Sophie (Adoption #H211064) has enthusiastically thrown her past hardships behind her and is eager to put her best paws forward toward the bright, happy future NSALA has planned for her. This vivacious survivor was a model patient for vets that surgically corrected an eye condition (entropion), relieving her of any discomfort she’d experienced before. She’s left with an abundance of gratitude and no one specific to receive it — yet. After all she’s been through, Sophie would appreciate spending the rest of her life in a tranquil home, and making her exceedingly happy will be the top of your to-do list from now on.
**Double Adoption** The only thing better than a mini-house panther is a matching pair! Sonic (Adoption #WV0908) and Tails (Adoption #WV0909) are 6-month-old brothers just waiting for the chance to discover everything within the four walls of your loving home. These bonded siblings are open to meeting new people in the hopes that their long journey from West Virginia leads them into the loving arms of a wonderful family.
Seven (Adoption #R165392) is heaven! When a good Samaritan rescued Seven on a wintery day last year, NSALA had hoped he’d be safe inside a loving home. Unfortunately, he lost that home due to a move, but he’ll always be safe with his Animal League America family until a permanent family comes along. His past outside left him FIV+, but this robust three-year-old survivor doesn’t let anything get in the way of receiving chin rubs on his delightful soul patch. Everyone knows Seven is a lucky number and he’s looking forward to meeting the lucky people committed to making all the days in his life filled with a bounty of love and chin rubs!
**Senior Alert** When sweet, 14-year-old Samantha (Adoption #D44734) lost her lifelong companion, she lost her home too. NSALA has welcomed this lovely lady with open arms, and she’s rewarded them with her full trust that a bright future awaits her in a peaceful home once again. Vets have created a plan to treat her hyperthyroidism, and she’ll receive this care at cost through NSALA Pet Health Centers. They want to ensure that nothing stands in Samantha’s way of being cherished once again by her devoted hero family.
