Come on, Long Island — this is the purrfect time of year to adopt a new best friend! Take a hike, open a window (screen down of course), but don’t do it alone — any one of these amazing cats and dogs would love to be by your side now and forever.
And if you can’t adopt but wish to help animals in need, the Nassau County SPCA is seeking donations to help with the rescue of more than 59 cats at a hoarder house in Bellmore. Trapping is still active and numbers are expected to keep rising. Most, if not all cats, have eye and respiratory issues and are in need of immediate medical attention. Please consider making a donation towards their care here: nassaucountyspca.org.
Available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America
Two-year-old Chris (Adoption #FTF05) may seem like a shy guy to new friends, but his calm, quiet energy has been quite therapeutic to his shyer roommates. Rescued locally, Chris now awaits the opportunity to become someone’s best friend in the comfort of the great indoors. Although tentative in new situations, a peaceful home with children 12 years and older, and a patient, experienced adult will guide him through a smooth transition. Because Chris shines when he’s with his cat friends, we’re seeking a confident cat in the home to mentor him. Chris politely accepting treats in exchange of blinkies is all you’ll need to welcome him into your heart!
When Gizelle (Adoption #NCR5932) first arrived this spring, she needed assurance that she was indeed safe. Time in a sunny room with respectful cat friends and human cheerleaders has brought out the fun-loving Gizelle everyone all come to enjoy. This terrific, two-year-old tabby can still be cautious in new situations, but a family with experienced adults and children ages six and above will quickly learn how to delight her with playtime and treats. Most of all, Gizelle longs to sun herself by windows, content in knowing she’s safe and sound. We can’t wait for her to discover the windows in your home and know what it means to be a cherished member of the family!
**Double Adoption** Maggie (Adoption #H210433) and Lizza (Adoption #H210433) were discovered wandering around Far Rockaway when their rescuer offered them a safer life off the streets. Although it took some purrsuading, these devoted 2-year-old sisters are now fully embracing life inside Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, quite the upgrade from fending for themselves outside. You’ll find them eager to greet new friends—feline and human alike! They’re always hoping it’s treats, but they’re happy to settle for ear rubs and playtime. After a difficult start, Maggie and Lizza would benefit from an experienced home with children age six and older who will help them settle into yet another new lifestyle — being part of her first family!
**Senior Alert** Twelve-year-old Jerry Klein (Adoption #H210439) enjoyed his entire life with a devoted human and a house full of feline companionship. But when his beloved human passed away recently, he found himself needing our help. NSALA moved Jerry and his friends into a sunny room in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center and have provided them all the comforts he feared losing when he lost his home. The bravest of his family, Jerry was the first to open up his heart to the possibilities that great days are ahead for him. He’s shown his shyer friends that there’s hope ahead and safety in their daily lives. NSALA would love to find Jerry a quiet home with children 10 years and older who will embrace him with all the ear rubs and treats he demands. While he makes a fabulous friend to the cats, his true power is making his human feel like a super hero!
Momma Mimi (Adoption #BF3786) put her life on pause as she tended to her kittens. This magnificent four-year-old lady was rescued from outside and given a quiet space to be nurtured herself, which she’s come to appreciate as a far better alternative to the life she had before. NSALA is making sure Mimi never has to worry about caring for herself again. She’s rewarded NSALA efforts with an effervescent purrsonality, thrilled to discover new experiences with unbridled enthusiasm. Because Mimi is still working out her relationship with humans, a predictable home with older children will be a great introduction to life as a cherished member of the family. She’s shown everyone that she wants her humans all to herself, so a home as the only pet will ensure her happiness. If you’ve had cats before, you’re going to quickly recognize how wonderful it is to be loved by a friend who knows she’s been rescued!
There’s a lot to love about Alice (Adoption #NCI2299) — not just her oversized tummy but also her life-of-the-party cattitude! This 2-year-old beauty came to NSALA through their sister shelter in Glen Falls, NY and she’s hoping the move downstate opens up new opportunities for a fun, party lifestyle she’s interested in purrsuing. Looking for someone to brighten your day and fill your home with laughter? Alice is looking for invitation to your heart and home!

Valentina is a 5-year-old Female Shih Tzu Mix who lived a sheltered early life. She is learning to come out of her shell and blossom into her own. She came to the Animal Shelter when her previous owner realized that she could no longer provide her with the care she needs to live her best life. Valentina deals with chronic dry eye and skin infections, and a potential owner will need to be comfortable with providing her with eye drops, medicated baths and visits to the veterinarian. This extra bit of effort is absolutely worth it as Valentina is a total sweetheart who is very gentle and loves kisses. She can be a little timid with other animals at first but will overall do well with other dogs and cats in the home.
If you are interested in meeting Valentina, please call 631-360-7575.
