An Update From The Mayor Of Garden City

Third Track Release
The Village of Garden City Mayor Garden City Mayor Cosmo Veneziale working with the Third Track Committee and the village officials to address the final design issues regarding the recently inserted reinforced concrete bridge underpass at Tanners Pond Road and Main Avenue completed by the Long Island Rail Road. The village also began the enhanced landscaping work on May 15, weather permitting.

The mayor has enlisted the expert help of resident Landscape Architects Bill Kuhl and Celia Petersen to assist the village in the proposed enhanced landscape work. Their involvement has helped us enormously. Paul Rothenbiller of the Third Track Committee has also assisted in the enhanced landscape work as well as Trustee Bruce Chester, who has helped keep the on track.

The mayor said that he is optimistic that with the assistance of the resident volunteers, the Village Administrator, the Building Superintendent, John Borroni, P.E. and Chester we will improve the landscape at the areas of the village impacted by the Third Track Project.

Water Authority of Western Nassau County Water Quality Report
The Water Authority of Western Nassau County, which services village residents who live in the western most part of the village, has completed its Annual Water Quality Report/Consumer Confidence Report for 2021. The full report can be found on the Garden City website, www.gardencityny.net; copies are also available at the Water Authority’s office located at 1580 Union Turnpike in New Hyde Park.

A supplement report, which contains data for each well utilized during 2021, both before and after treatment, is available for review a the Garden City Public Library.

Beautifying Garden City
The village is bursting with color this spring. The Parks and Recreation Department crew of Tom Armato and Jessie Lyons, under the direction of Nursery Manager Steve Barnych, plant approximately 47,000 tulips each spring. Careful attention is paid to the type and color of the tulips, with an eye towards providing bright and attractive displays throughout the village, according to Paul Blake, chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Cultural and Recreational Affairs.

National Grid Gas Main Project
The National Grid construction team continued pipe testing preparation in the Stewart Avenue median and other work at various locations along Roslyn Road and County Seat Drive in Mineola. Over the next week, neighbors can expect to see the following activities during work hours:
• Pipe testing activity near the Roslyn Road-East Williston Avenue intersection and in the Stewart Avenue median.
• Please note, as part of the pipe testing process there will be some overnight crew presence in East Williston and Garden City.
Traffic Management Updates:
• Westbound traffic on Stewart Avenue between Arthur Street and Kellum Lane will be reduced to one lane during work hours. Eastbound traffic patterns may
change during certain activities.
• The U-turn in the Stewart Avenue median between Arthur Street and Kellum Lane will be closed at all times for the duration of the project.
• Northbound traffic on Roslyn Road will be reduced for one lane near East Williston Avenue.
• Crews will have flaggers present to redirect traffic as necessary The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) has mandated a 12-hour pretest and 12-hour hydro test of the south segment of the Northwest Nassau Natural Gas Integrity project. In total this is a 24-hour test that needs to be done in tandem. The PSC scheduled the hydro test for Thursday, May 5. The majority of the work will occur at the north end of the pipe in East Williston. In Garden City, there will be a small crew, generator, and lighting; however, the footprint and impact will be limited. Residents may notice an increased noise generated from the associated equipment to complete the required testing.
