To the Manhasset community:
My name is Allison O’Brien Silva and I ask for your vote to elect me to the Manhasset School District Board of Education. With each passing year, my husband, our three girls, and I have loved getting more deeply involved in the fabric of this close-knit community.
As I reflect on my aspirations for our children, I envision a BOE that can lead our district to be one that welcomes and nurtures our young, hesitant kindergartners, and challenges, inspires, and supports them holistically through their journey. When they’re finally marching in cap and gown onto our high school lawn, they will graduate as confident individuals who have grown into the best version of themselves.
We are ready to move past the acute crisis of educating during COVID. We must refocus on delivering a comprehensive, challenging academic program; offer a wide variety of sports, arts, community service, and extra-curriculars to encourage growth outside the classroom; and a full spectrum of support needed for every child to succeed. This vision can only happen with input from a community that feels inspired and motivated to engage fully with the BOE’s oversight and decision-making process. We must transform how the BOE communicates by building formal and informal processes to encourage proactive, dynamic dialogue.
I feel strongly that I have the right personal style, skill set, and business experience to enable the BOE to lead our community in that vision.
After earning my MBA at Columbia Business School, I worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. I developed and implemented best practices in leadership, communications, strategy, and operations when I advised and solved critical management problems for leaders of top consumer goods and healthcare companies. I will bring those lessons and best practices to my service on the BOE.
On May 17, I ask you for your trust and your vote. Come alongside me to cast a new vision for Manhasset.
