If you’re somewhat of a rebel, Teddy’s Bully Bar has a cocktail for you.
“While creating each menu at Teddys, we knew we wanted to not only pay homage to Teddy himself but his loved ones as well,” says Zach Gross, owner of Teddy’s Bully Bar, a gastropub that nods to Oyster Bay history and 26th president of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt. “Teddy Roosevelt wasn’t the only larger than life character in his family. Equally as strong willed and outspoken, his daughter Alice became the White House’s rebel. How could we not pay a tribute to her on our signature cocktail menu?”
In fact, two presidents banned her from the White House. The first time was for burying a voodoo doll of President Taft’s wife, Nellie, before leaving the White House. Taft banned her after someone unearthed the doll. President Wilson then banned her after she apparently made rude and lewd comments about him. Even President Roosevelt once said, “I can do one of two things. I can be president of the United States or I can control Alice. I cannot possibly do both.”
Teddy’s Bully Bar’s The Alice
But back to the cocktail. The Alice is made with 21 Seeds Cucumber Jalapeño Tequila, pineapple juice, lime juice, and club soda. “We felt 21 Seeds was the best choice for this signature cocktail being a woman-owned brand,” Gross says.
His goal was to create a cocktail that “awakened the blend of sweet and spicy,” which he feels represents and perfectly honors Alice. “Learning about Alice, you can tell she was breaking social norms, and rightfully so,” he says. “She’s the rebel with a cause and a big heart.”
“While we’re constantly serving espresso martinis, old-fashioneds and other bold cocktails, the Alice is a nice change-up and we can proudly say, it’s uniquely ours,” he says. “Our customers love it, we invite you to try it, and we hope you fight the good fight — just like Alice.”
Teddy’s Bully Bar is located at 46 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay and can be reached at 516-408-5339.
