Move over, Mariah Carey – another pop sensation from Long Island is stepping on the Christmas scene. Debbie Gibson, the musical star and actress from Merrick, has released her first holiday music album and will perform at The Paramount on Dec. 1.
Gibson released the new record, Winterlicious, on Oct 21. She will soon embark on a Winterlicious tour and bring Christmas music to the popular Huntington music venue to kick off the month of December.
For years, Carey, a Greenlawn native, has been dubbed “Queen of Christmas,” as her hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” dominates the airwaves every year around the holidays. Though it seems no one will reclaim her crown anytime soon, Carey has perhaps only motivated other singer-songwriters to release their own Christmas albums since hers dropped in 1992. Pop stars such as Sia, Kelly Clarkson, Meghan Trainor, and now Gibson, as well as many, many others, have all made their own holiday albums in the 30 years since.
Winterlicious includes a mix of holiday classics, such as “Let It Snow” and “Jingle Bell Rock,” and original songs, such as “Christmas Star” and “Cheers!” It features a total of 14 tracks, including two duets: “White Christmas” with Daddy Joe and “Heartbreak Holiday” with Joey McIntyre.
It is Gibson’s 11th album since she came to fame as a teenager in the ‘80s after growing up in Merrick and attending Calhoun High School. The 52-year-old’s top hits have included “Only In My Dreams,” “Electric Youth,” and “Out of the Blue.”
