Book Review: The Maze Amazes at Theodore’s Books

In October, Nelson DeMille released his newest John Corey thriller, The  Maze. Nelson will be signing copies at a Theodore’s Books event at LIU Post in Greenvale at 6 p.m. on Nov. 3.

One of the advantages of owning a bookshop is receiving advance copies of new releases, and I can tell you, if  you love a good crime thriller, you’ll love The Maze. It’s based on real events  involving the murders of sex workers on Long Island’s Gilgo Beach. So,  yeah, it’s a beach read. In October.

DeMille is Long Island’s gift to the spy thriller. He has a knack for making  Long Island a central character in his stories but elevating the plot and  tension to the level of John le Carré or Ken Follett. Here, DeMille constructs a  fast-paced story ripped from local headlines.

At the Nov. 3 event, Nelson was joined by another Long Island icon, Susan Lucci, for a wine reception, discussion and signing of The Maze. The event was cohosted by LIU Post and took place in the Roosevelt School in the White House Press Room.

Steve Israel is the owner of Theodore’s Books and was a congressman who represented the North Shore of western Long Island from 2001 to 2017. Sign Up for Theodore’s Books updates at Theodoresbooks.com.
