Graduation for the Roslyn High School is approaching. Future issues of The Roslyn News will carry articles on the graduates and their many achievements. For now, the high school has announced that Jake Konigsberg has been named Valedictorian and Kristi Lam has been named Salutatorian of the Class of 2023.

Jake Konigsberg earned a grade-point average of 107.184. Among his many accomplishments is being a Regeneron LISEF Finalist, a National Merit Finalist, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. He is the president of the Medical Explorers Club and table tennis intramural, captain of the Science Olympiad Club and Congressional Debate Branch, and an executive board member of the Ethics and Government Club.
Away from school, Jake spends a lot of time serving as a leading advocate and regional board member for the American Cancer Society, volunteering at a local hospital, and running a local volunteer organization. Jake will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.
Salutatorian Kristi Lam earned a grade-point average of 106.197. Kristi is a USA Biology Olympiad Semifinalist, a National Merit Commended Scholar, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. She is a member of the National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, President of the Science National Honor Society, Co-President of the Astronomy Club, and a captain of the Science Olympiad team.
Kristi spends many of her after-school hours at the Cold Spring Harbor Research Lab researching plant genetics in their Partners for the Future program. She also volunteers in the Young Adult Advisory Council and the Roslyn Chapter of Letters for Rose. An avid hiker, she hopes to further her studies in Environmental Science & Engineering and contribute to worldwide conservation efforts in the future.
“We are proud of Jake and Kristi for their momentous achievements in Roslyn’s very competitive scholastic environment,” said Roslyn High School Principal Dr. Scott Andrews. “We wish them well in all facets of their future academic endeavors.”
In other news, five Roslyn High School students placed exceptionally well at the 2023 Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF), held on March 7 at Crest Hollow Country Club.
Jake Konigsberg, as noted the RHS Class of 2023 Valedictorian, took first place in Biomedical and Health Sciences, winning a trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Dallas this May; Jacob Gross took second place in Microbiology; Sara Rosenbaum placed third in Behavioral Science; Emily Nguyen placed third in Biomedical and Health Sciences; and Amanda Liswood won Honorable Mention in Biomedical and Health Sciences.
LISEF is a competition for the most advanced high school projects, and gives students the opportunity to present to professionals in their subject areas from local universities, scientific institutions, and professionals in the field. Every year, Roslyn students make the grade and this year was no different.
Finally, 65 Roslyn High School students were among 2,600 participants who competed in the 2023 New York State DECA Competition—held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center in Rochester, from March 8-10.
Nineteen of the Roslyn students qualified for the National Competition, to be held April 22-26 in Orlando, FL. Forty-four students earned top ten medallions in 21 categories.
