The Whiskey Chick Is a Standout Cocktail at Farmingdale’s Whiskey Down Diner

While drinking whiskey neat or on the rocks isn’t for everybody, a well-balanced whiskey-based cocktail can broaden the palate of many.

“At Whiskey Down, you will find a large and unique selection of different whiskeys, as well as other spirits,” says Brianna Catrombone, bar manager at Whiskey Down Diner, a classic American neighborhood diner in Farmingdale. “When you think of whiskey, most may think of an old-fashioned or an on-the-rocks-style [cocktail], which may be only for an acquired taste.

“The Whiskey Chick was designed to be a drink for everyone to enjoy, even the non-whiskey drinkers,” she continued. “Part-owner Kristina Mohan’s spirit of choice is whiskey, which helped inspire this cocktail and its name. She wanted a cocktail that was light and fresh but also not too sweet.”

For The Whiskey Chick, Catrombone uses 1.5 ounces of Old Forester bourbon, 0.75 ounces of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 0.50 ounces of Aperol Aperitivo liqueur, 1 ounce of pineapple juice, three dashes of Angostura bitters, and a generous squeeze of honey.

“As someone who is considered a non-whiskey drinker and the one who created this cocktail, I believe it’s the perfect drink to introduce someone to whiskey,” says Catrombone. “Whiskey can be intimidating. It’s often strong and sometimes bitter. When pairing it with juices or acidity it can help break down that strong flavor and be more of a loved drink by everyone.”

To make the cocktail, add all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice, and shake vigorously for approximately 10-15 seconds. Then, double strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe glass. Finally, garnish the cocktail with a brandied cherry.

“Some describe it as light and refreshing while others say you would never know there was whiskey in there,” she says.
