35th Annual Geraldo Rivera Golf Classic to Benefit Life’s WORC, WORC Force
For more than five decades, Life’s WORC has been enriching the lives of individuals who have autism and developmental disabilities – but the organization’s work is far from finished. The nonprofit’s new initiative, WORC Force, is set to launch later this year.
WORC Force will be a multipurpose community center that focuses on vocational services. The organization’s upcoming 35th Annual Geraldo Rivera Golf Classic will benefit WORC Force and all of Life’s WORC’s programs.
“This is a commitment to give individuals with special needs a more purposeful life, where there is focus and a goal to grow,” says Life’s WORC CEO Matthew Zebatto. ‘If that’s just growing socially, that’s great. If it’s vocationally, that’s also great. If it culminates in employment placement, that’s great, too.
“It’s to grow each person to a level commensurate with their challenges and their capabilities,” he adds. “And we emphasize their capabilities, not their challenges.”
WORC Force programs will be held in a 24,000-square-foot facility in Garden City that is currently under renovation. Life’s WORC received a grant from New York State for $735,000 to transform the building on Franklin Avenue to incorporate a gymnasium, cafeteria, and other collaborative community rooms.
To assist in funding the expansion of Life’s WORC’s services, its annual golf outing will take place on May 15 at the Old Westbury Golf and Country Club. Golf registration kicks off at 10 a.m. Then there will be a brunch held at 10:30 a.m. and the shotgun start at noon.
After a day of golf, Life’s WORC and its supporters will celebrate with cocktails and dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. The organization will recognize its 2023 honorees: Rosana Filingeri, vice president of Business Development at Cybersafe Solutions; John Murn, CEO of Next Level Fitness Water; and Anthony Taormina Jr., vice president of Operations at Rose Mechanical Corp.
