Crest Surf Clubs Breaks Ground on First Surf Pool in Shirley
A surf pool club is coming to Shirley in 2024.
Crest Surf Clubs broke ground on its debut location, Crest New York, at 86 Precision Dr. in Shirley in May. The 55,000 square-foot surf pool was built “for surfers by surfers,” and now all that’s left to do is construct it.
“I dreamed of creating Crest Surf Clubs since I graduated from my longboard to my first fiberglass. What started out as a vision that I shared with my father has finally come to fruition,” says Brett Portera, cofounder and CEO of Crest Surf Clubs. “As avid surfers ourselves, we created Crest New York with surfers in mind – meaning surfers from around the world will have access to exclusive technology allowing them to surf whichever waves they want at whatever temperature they want at any given time.”
Surf pool waves will have the capability to be customized on demand to different heights and temperatures, allowing surfers of varying experience levels to train all year round, day or night. The pool will be able to generate waves from 2 to 7 feet high and ride lengths of up to 85 yards.
The pool was designed in collaboration with Premier Surf Systems, and the 9,000 square-foot clubhouse by GRCH Architecture and Curious Yellow Interior Design.
“Surfing has brought my family together for years and has always been a way for me to bond with my son, Brett,” says Chris Portera, cofounder and CEO of Crest Surf Clubs. “Crest will not only be a surf club, but a place for individuals and families to gather and connect with one another – a real lifestyle and community.”
In addition to the surf pool, the club will offer training by professionals, fitness classes such as yoga and Pilates, dining options, a balcony bar, and an open-plan lounge as well as semi-private areas for business meetings and concierge services.
