Tilles Center at LIU Post Announces New Residencies for 2023-24 Season
Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post will partner with Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for its 2023-24 season.
The partnerships will bring four jazz performances, three chamber music concerts, and the first-ever Long Island regional Essentially Ellington band competition, as well as arts education programs at Long Island schools and master classes for LIU Post and area high school students.
“We are so grateful to the Tilles Center for its commitment to the arts and for embracing the uniting art form that is jazz music,” says Georgina Javor, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s vice president of concerts and touring. “We look forward to bringing a talented group of emerging musicians to the Tilles community and working with them throughout the year.”
Jazz at Lincoln Center’s four-part residency begins with Samara Joy, the 2023 Grammy Award-winner for Best New Artist, on Oct. 22, followed by trumpeter, composer, and arts activist Etienne Charles’ Creole Christmas show on Dec. 8. A new jazz lounge in Tilles Center’s Goldsmith Atrium will feature Alexa Tarantino Quartet on April 5, 2024, and the 15-piece Internationally Ellington with the Future of Jazz Orchestra on May 17, 2024.
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center features a three-part concert series beginning with American Panorama on Oct. 29, An Evening with David Finckel and Wu Han on Jan. 27, 2024, and String Magic on April 7, 2024. The CMS residency aims to highlight diverse artists and repertoires.
“Chamber Music Society looks forward to sharing chamber music at the highest level of artistic excellence, including innovative programming and a spectacular array of artists,” says David Finckel and Wu Han, CMS artistic directors and musicians. “Our new friends at the Tilles Center will experience Chamber Music Society at its very best, and we cannot wait to begin this exciting new venture together.”
Chamber Music Society also presents a concert called CMS Kids: Who is Paganini? on March 24, 2024 in extension of Tilles Center’s longstanding commitment to sensory friendly programming for children with special needs.
“These renowned organizations are the standard bearers in the jazz and chamber music worlds,” says Tom Dunn, Tilles Center executive director. “We are honored and thrilled to partner with them to bring diverse, world-class performances and inclusive, educational experiences to our Long Island community.”
