Bill Stone and Bill Townsend, descendants of the Jackson and Townsend families interred in the Townsend Cemetery in East Hills, have installed a sign at the entrance of the burial ground. Supported by a grant from the Robert D.L. Gardiner Foundation, the cemetery was restored in 2022.
Bill Stone stated, “Descendants and their families gathered and donated sign to commemorate the legacy of their ancestors interred at East Hills. They are direct descendants of the Townsend, Willis, Jackson and Boerem families. The children are the 4th/5th great grandchildren of Timothy Jackson/Ethalinda Willis and Obadiah Jackson/Sarah Boerem respectively.”
