According to police, North Amityville man Gary Jones was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Ridge late Tuesday night.
Jones was the suspect in a murder that took place in Central Islip in June, and detectives were informed by a friend of Jones that he was in the Ridge house.
Police instructed Jones’ friend and everyone else in the home to leave — and then Jones appeared with a handgun.
Jones opened fire on detectives, striking a three-year-old girl named Lovely Toney from a nearby apartment.
After more police — including hostage negotiators — arrived on the scene, a police robot was sent into the house, and Jones was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to James Toney, her father, Lovely is expected to recover.
