Alexa Froccaro Wynn- Class of 2011
Few female athletes can boast eight varsity letters in two sports while attending Schreiber. Alexa Froccaro doesn’t boast; she accepts the credits humbly as an athlete who worked hard to get every tribute that came her way.
Alexa was a four-year doubles player on the Varsity girls’ team, a fierce competitor and a major contributor to the team.
As a freshman, she was named All-Division while becoming the Long Island Champion, playing 2nd doubles with her cousin, Jackie, and was named the team’s Most Improved Player.
Sophomore year was a repeat, adding All-Conference awards to her credit. Port proved to be a powerhouse, winning the Long Island Championship against Westhampton Beach by a score of 5-1 both years.
During her junior year, Alexa received All-County Honors and the Coaches Award. With Jackie being injured, Alexa paired with Emily Szulman to win the Long Island Championship in 1st doubles.
Coach Stan Mackover recognized Alexa as an athlete who was “a pleasure to coach as well as displayed the finest of sportsmanship and integrity while achieving ultimate competitiveness as well as respectful for every opponent,” he said.
As a senior captain and MVP of the team, Alexa welcomed her cousin back as a teammate and finished as an All-County player.
Although tennis may have been a love of Alexa’s, lacrosse was a passion. Not only did she excel as a lacrosse player in high school, she also played for four years in college.
As a freshman Varsity attack starter, she earned Honorable Mention All-County honors. Alexa continued to dominate the attack, receiving 3-time All-County honors and 2-time named MVP.
She led her team to a Conference Championship as team captain in her junior year and continued that leadership role in her senior year.
In addition, she was named twice to Newsday’s All-Long Island team and earned inclusion on the Under Armor All-Underclassmen team as a junior. She was selected for the National School Girls Team and was named Schreiber’s Outstanding Athlete of the year as a senior. She scored an amazing career 270 goals, including 100 in her junior year.
Upon graduation, she received the Paul D. Schreiber’s Joseph Augustino Award for the Most Outstanding Female Athlete and was named a NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete for four straight years.
