NEW YORK LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY
The New York Life Insurance Company finishes first on the Long Island Top Workplaces Survey for a fourth consecutive year. Founded in 1845, the New York Life Insurance Company has protected families and their futures on Long Island for nearly two centuries. Now it is the largest mutual life insurance company in the United States and is reported to have a revenue of well over $50 billion. At the cornerstone of the company’s success are the 650 agents, many of whom have Long Island roots that go back generations. These agents work to develop lasting relationships with clients and help them achieve financial security for themselves and future generations. The company shows no sign of slowing down with CEO Craig DeSanto, who took over in 2020. Since DeSanto took the helm, the company has been named one of Forbes Best Employers For Diversity.
FAMILY SERVICE LEAGUE
At number two on the survey, making its sixth consecutive appearance on the list, is the Family Service League (FSL). Since 1926, this social service agency has acted as a safety net for families on Long Island. It’s still the only human services organization to receive Council on Accreditation of Families and Children status in Suffolk County. The organization aims to give vulnerable individuals the tools and resources they need to reach their full potential in all aspects of life. Whether it’s tutoring, medical assistance, or mental health support, the organization is here to help. Operating out of Huntington with 22 additional locations and more than 700 employees and volunteers, the organization aids more than 50,000 individuals across the Island daily. By helping these individuals, FSL workers hope to inspire everyone to do the right thing and help rebuild communities in the process.
PARKER JEWISH INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH CARE AND REHABILITATION
At number three on the list is the Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation. The nonprofit organization was officially founded back in 1972 to provide quality healthcare and rehabilitation services for adults, but the company’s roots go much further. The formation of the institute and what it is today dates back to 1907 when a small group of benefactors started a homeless shelter in East Harlem. At that point, the shelter consisted of a single room. The operation began to expand with the increasing number of immigrants coming to the United States. With the help of private donations, the organization eventually moved the shelter to an eight-story building at 1260 Fifth Ave. in Manhattan, where the organization was temporarily known as the Home and Hospital of the Daughters of Israel. Its continuous success and growth led the organization to where it is today in New Hyde Park. The institute is now one of the leading healthcare providers on Long Island, with more than 1000 employees nationwide.
