On Oct. 24, Westbury Arts held its 10th Anniversary Gala at Westbury Manor.
Westbury Arts was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization on October 13, 2013, and the event was an opportunity not only to fundraise, but also to celebrate the achievements of the arts council’s first ten years.
The theme of the gala was “A Pop of Color.” Guests were invited to let their inner colors shine in whatever way suited their individual style, and the result was a vibrant array of colorful attire. The evening was filled with joyful community spirit, music, dinner, dancing, and cocktails, as well as the opportunity to celebrate three of Westbury Arts’ valued supporters: Lynnette Carr-Hicks, Lyn Dobrin, and Judge Thomas F. Liotti. Ms. Carr-Hicks, a graduate of Westbury High School, is the founder and director of the award-winning Uniondale High School Show Choir “Rhythm of the Knight.”
She and the show choir are perennial participants in Westbury Arts’ annual Black History Celebration held at Westbury High School, and their performances have been a beloved staple of the event. Ms. Dobrin, a Westbury Arts member since 2015, has been an instrumental part of the Westbury Arts marketing committee.
A writer and journalist, Ms. Dobrin puts both her talents and contacts to good use, creating press releases for Westbury Arts events and exhibitions.
The publicity garnered by Dobrin’s work has not only helped to increase the organization’s media exposure and reach but has also been an important tool in bringing new audiences and members to Westbury Arts.
Finally, Judge Liotti, a recently retired Village of Westbury Justice, was honored for his three decades of service to the Village, as well as his long -standing support of Westbury Arts.
Among those who came out to honor Ms. Carr-Hicks, Ms. Dobrin, and Judge Liotti were Village of Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro, Deputy Mayors Steven Corte and Beaumont Jefferson, Trustee Bill Wise, Nassau County Legislator Siela Bynoe, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Councilman Robert Troiano, and Councilwoman Veronica Lurvey. The honorees also received citations from Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Nassau County Legislator Laura Schaefer, and proclamations from the Village of Westbury and the Town of North Hempstead.
Westbury Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is committed to delivering arts and cultural programs that connect, educate, and inspire the community, and the annual fall fundraiser event is instrumental to supporting that mission. Guests bought raffle tickets and bid on a number of luxury items in the silent auction, which included several beautiful original paintings by Westbury Arts member artists. The 10th Anniversary Pop of Color Gala was Westbury Arts’ most successful fundraiser to date and was truly an evening to celebrate.
