Victory
Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, left, defeated former Supervisor Jon Kaiman in the 2023 election.

Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena declared victory late Tuesday night over former Supervisor Jon Kaiman.

DeSena first won election to the seat in 2021, a year that saw major gains for Republicans all across Long Island. Kaiman had served in the position from 2004 to 2013, He has served as Deputy Suffolk County Executive since 2017.

Due to her having won on a red wave phenomenon, pundits Jerry Kremer and Michael Dawidziak told the Press last month that Kaiman had a good chance of winning back his old seat.

It was not to be, however. According to the Nassau County Board of Election’s unofficial results, DeSena defeated Kaiman by a margin of 55% to 45%.

The results were less in doubt for Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin, who declared victory over challenger Olena Nicks with a margin of 65% to 35%, and Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, who declared victory over challenger Jared Behr with a margin of 69% to 31%.

With these wins, Republicans held on to all three town supervisor seats in Nassau County.
