The Manhasset Board of Education held its Nov. 30 meeting in the Munsey Park Elementary School library where a teacher was honored, along with several students.

Dr. Robert Krakehl, a physics teacher at Manhasset Secondary School, was recognized at the start of the meeting for being named 2023 Local Teacher of the Year by the Physics Teacher Education Coalition. Dr. Teresa McGrath, district coordinator of science and technology education, praised Dr. Krakehl for his leadership and dedication.

“He is always seeking opportunities for his own professional growth and is committed to mastering both the craft of teaching and the physics behind his lessons,” said Dr. McGrath. “He’s a true leader in the field of physics education and I’m proud to have him as a member of our science department.”

Munsey Park Elementary School’s student ambassadors were also recognized during the meeting. This included Winifred Concannon, Ella Coppock, Peter Galvin, Bryn Guariglia, Aron Holland, Lucy Kauftheil, Zoe Lambrou, Andrew Palumbo, Luke Post and Sophia Theodoropoulous. These ten students participated in the school’s New Parent Welcome at the beginning of the school year and shared a “day in the life” of a Munsey Park student with new families. Munsey Park Principal Chad Altman and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gaurav Passi thanked the student ambassadors for representing the school so well.

Dr. Krakehl and the Munsey Park student ambassadors received a certificate from the board for their achievements.
