Celebrate 12 Days of Christmas With A New Pet! Animals For Adoption On Long Island

Adoption Marley

North Shore Animal League America is offering some great tips for adopting this holiday season!

  • Consider your schedule and lifestyle during the holidays before committing to bringing home a new pet.  Every family is different; the holiday season can be a very hectic time of year for many whiles for others, this season may be one of quiet gathering and the allows ample time to spend bonding with a new pet.
  • Choosing a new, furry family member can be a terrific bonding experience and should be shared with the entire family. Families are encouraged to choose the newest addition together – visit your local shelter’s website and then visit the shelter in person.
  • The best way to “surprise friends/family” at the holidays is with a symbolic gift that represents your intent to bring a new animal into the home/family. Adopting an animal is a long-term commitment (13-15 years for a puppy; even longer for a kitten) and should not be an impulsive decision.
  • Most shelters have an area to conduct a “Meet & Greet.” If you have pet(s) in the home already, bring them with you to meet any potential new additions to the family to ensure they will get along.

Ready to adopt? Let’s grant some holiday wishes by bringing home one of these kitties or pups today!

Adoption Marley

*Special Request* Marley is a sweet, beautiful cat who has the misfortune of being diabetic. Under The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter’s wonderful foster program, that could be almost no trouble at all. All medical expenses, including insulin, vet visits, food and supplies will be provided at no expense to you. Marley would do best with a patient and understanding owner who knows she will take time to adjust to her new life. Marley needs insulin shots twice a day and prefers to be the only cat in your life. Marley can become overstimulated and would do best in a cat experienced home. After over a year and a half in the shelter can you really blame her? Marley has not lost hope so we can’t either. Marley is only 6 years young and doesn’t deserve to spend the rest of her life confined to a cage. She is very patiently waiting for you at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.

Adoption Scout

Hidden Gem right here! 4-year-old Scout came to the shelter as a stray in October 2021. He is very sweet, just wants to cuddle and just loves human attention! He loves playing with toys almost as much as sitting in your lap. Scout is a petite guy, weighing 45 pounds, and would be a great addition to most homes! He is recommended for a home with kids 13 and up. He is on the search for a solo dog home. He is a fun dog who has so much love to give! Don’t let this sweet guy pass you by!
