Melville Tax Attorney Karen Tenenbaum Dies at 64

Karen Tenenbaum, a prominent tax attorney and certified public accountant who founded the Melville-based law firm of Tenenbaum Law, P.C. to help clients navigate tax problems, has died. She was 64.

Born on Sept. 4, 1959 to Shirley and Marty Weinstein, Karen graduated from Brooklyn College with her Bachelor of Science in Accounting, her Doctor of Law from Brooklyn Law School and her Master of Laws, Taxation from New York University Law School. She worked for several leading law firms before founding her own firm in 1996.

In her four decades as an attorney, the Dix Hills resident represented clients facing myriad issues, ranging from New York State to federal tax audits, appeals, collections, and related cases. She also regularly led discussions on these topics at professional events, was quoted by local news media as an expert on tax issues, and was involved in various trade groups.

She was the past chair of the Nassau County Bar Association Tax Law Committee, a past executive board member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Nassau Chapter, and served as the chair on the Suffolk County Bar Association Tax Law Committee.

She was frequently honored as a leader in her field. Among her many awards, Tenenbaum was selected as a New York Super Lawyer as a practitioner in Tax Law, was named one of the Power Women of Long Island by the Long Island Press and won various awards from Long Island Business News.

She is survived by her husband Larry Tenenbaum, daughters Allison Rosenzweig and Stacie Dubnoff, as well as four grandchildren and brothers Rich and Steve Weinstein.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 26 at Star of David Memorial Chapels, 1236 Wellwood Rd., West Babylon.
