It may not be time to gas up your snow blower or stock up on bread and milk just yet, as the National Weather Service (NWS) does not expect Long Island to see much snow this weekend.
“For Long Island, it’s going to be more rain than snow or at least a wintry mix,” the NWS told the Press. “The further south and east you go, the more plain rain you’re going to see. The further north and west go across alone, like northwest Suffolk and into central and northern Nassau, you’ll see a prolonged period of rain mixing between rain and wet snow.”
There’s a chance for snow Sunday morning, but not enough to warrant severe travel concerns.
The biggest question or uncertainty is do we get a period of snow when the colder air wraps in on the backside of the storm system as it departs Sunday morning,” the NWS said. “Right now, it looks like there’ll be very little snow. You could get an inch or two in northwestern Long Island. There could be a little bit of slush Sunday morning, but we’re mainly looking at wet roads on Long Island.”
The NWS added that its winter storm watch for this system is not intended for Long Island.
