A Nassau County police officer shot and killed a 19-year-old man who authorities alleged pointed a handgun at police outside of the teenager’s Massapequa home on Friday night, police said.

Officers had responded to a report of a suicidal man at a Stone Boulevard home when they found David Clements standing outside with three handguns, with one in each hand pointed at his head at 8:29 p.m., police said.

“He was threatening to kill himself and disregarded numerous commands from officers to disarm himself,” police said in a news release that stated that Clements ran inside the home and then returned outside. “He then rushed down his driveway, pointing his weapon at officers until it became necessary for an officer to use deadly physical force.”

A police medic pronounced the teenager dead at the scene. Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation along with the New York State Attorney General’s office. The name of the officer was not released.
