Republicans have chosen retired New York City Police detective Mike Sapraicone to challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the race for her Senate seat in November.
Sapraicone, who lives in Seaford, served 20 years in the NYPD, starting out as a transit officer and eventually being promoted to detective. After retiring from the NYPD, Sapraicone founded Squad Security, a private corporate security firm. The company employs up to 600 current and former law enforcement officials.
He has served as president of the Seaford Union Free School District Board of Education and is a senior trustee of the Museum of American Armor. Mike is also on the boards of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, Catholic Youth Organization and the Columbus Citizens Foundation,
Sapraicone was reportedly on the Republican shortlist of candidates to run in the special election in New York’s third congressional district to replace George Santos, but the nomination ultimately went to Nassau County Legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip (R-Great Neck).
“I am truly honored to be nominated by the New York Republican Party to run for U.S. Senate,” Sapraicone said. “I look forward to working with Republicans across New York — and thank them for putting their faith in me. I am ready to hit the ground running and continue meeting with New York voters. There is an urgency like never before that we confront and defeat New York’s U.S. Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, who has proven she is out of touch with what New Yorkers want and need, as she consistently supports the failed policies of the Biden Administration.”
