Adoption

*Special Request* Mia is a stunning five year-old Mastiff/Labrador mix who sadly has called the Animal Shelter home for over FOUR YEARS, after being hit by a car and then surrendered. To make matters worse, Mia was a “yard dog” living her first part of life outdoors and wasn’t properly socialized. As a result, Mia has a little “stranger danger” so getting to know her may take a second visit before she starts giving out cuddles and paws.

Mia is a gorgeous and goofy girl who loves to play and throw toys around. She is a big fan of going on car rides, pup cups, and resting her head and big paws on her favorite people’s laps! The first time Mia gives you her paw, your heart will melt as she ever so gently insists upon holding your hand for a long period of time.

While it may take a few visits to get to know Mia, her loyalty and unconditional friendship is worth the constant supply of kisses, hugs and endless affection. Mia will need a home that can properly introduce her to new people in a way that makes her feel safe. Mia would do best in a home without any other pets or young children.

If you are interested in meeting Mia, please fill out an application  and schedule a date/time to properly interact in a domestic setting, which includes the shelter’s Meet and Greet Room, dog runs, and Dog Walk trail. For more information, visit TownofSmithtownAnimalShelter.com

Available for adoption at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter

Adoption

Fiona was living in a home with 7 dogs and 4 other cats. Unfortunately, the owner fell ill, unable to care for these animals, and now Fiona finds herself here at the shelter, unsure of her surroundings. Fiona is becoming a little more confident, is curious (but still cautious) and is slowly opening up to human friends. Fiona needs a patient home, understanding of her background and can give her time to warm up to new surroundings and home life where she can feel safe and comfortable. You may just win her over by giving her a warm bed to snuggle up on and some catnip! Fiona would do well with other feline friends in a household.

Adoption

Boo found his way to the shelter after her owner was evicted from his home. Boo is a 6-year-old Terrier mix who is friendly upon meeting new people and would ne best as a solo dog.  In her forever home, she is eager to learn more tricks with a tasty treat. She will certainly impress you with her listening skills – just look at those ears!  Boo is pretty strong, so she will need continued training with leash manners which she has already shown improvement with. She is best suited for an adult home only but may possibly go home with older children at the trainers discretion.

If you are interested in getting more information on Fiona or Boo, contact the shelter’s placement team at Adoption@hempsteadny.gov or call 516.785.5220.

Now safely placed in a sunny room among like-minded feline friends, this stunning two-year-old beauty craves simplicity: a cozy bed, a gentle hand, and a carefree life as part of a family. You’ll be head over heels for Parsimony after the first hello!

*Double Adoption* It’s always baseball season when the players are bonded four-year-old brothers Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays. They’re getting used to being back in the shelter after losing their home. With Jackie’s curiosity for playtime, he’ll be the MVP of your hearts in no time; Willie prefers to be a bench warmer but will always keep score on who gives out the best ear rubs. Jackie and Willie are hall of famers for their bravery in facing new situations together and will hopefully find their way across Homeplate—with you!

One-year-old Momma Margo is ready to go-go! This beautiful local lady spent time nurturing her kittens in our Pet Health Centers and needed an extended stay with our vets to resolve her demodex, a covered health condition through the very place that put her back on four paws. Now it’s time for her to be on the receiving end of some pampering within her furever home. Be the lucky family who gets her grateful head-butts!
