New and expanded facilities in full swing at Church of the Holy Resurrection
A few months ago, the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection in Brookville celebrated the completion of its years-long expansion project, which brought new and larger facilities to the growing church community.
At the time, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America told the congregation while marking the occasion, “As you work together for your parish by ministering and being of service to one another, you grow in love. You become friends in Christ, beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord and this is the key to understanding the why of our faith. Brotherly and sisterly love unlocks the deeper mystery of our faith.”
According to the church, the completion of the expansion project is indeed the culmination of years of work within the community, and represents part of the congregation’s commitment to serving their community by answering God’s call.
The church has been in its current location since 2005, after purchasing the property as a community and building the structure to fit their community’s needs.
By 2018, the parish had continued steadily growing such that the community recognized the need to expand their facilities, and overwhelmingly approved the church’s Expansion Project during the parish’s Spring Assembly that year.
According to the church’s website, “The expansion project represents a significant milestone in the history of the Church of the Holy Resurrection, reflecting its commitment to growth, community engagement, and fostering a welcoming environment for parishioners.”
The expansion project included a new athletic center, four new classrooms, and an expanded, renovated fellowship hall for religious and community events.
Reconfiguration of the fellowship hall involved creating a new main entrance, expanded seating footprint, repositioned and enlarged performance stage, coat check, storage facilities, and overall improved floor plan for events, nearly doubling the space’s size.
The four new classrooms on the second floor corridor overlook the church’s family garden with a new internal staircase located within the existing building footprint.
The church’s airy and spacious new athletic center in particular serves as “a focal point for community activities and sporting events for our youth,” according to the organization, including for its Camp G-1 and Archdiocesan basketball and volleyball ministries.
The new gym is host to both basketball and volleyball teams, and features four drop-down baskets, a spectator bleacher area, locker rooms, bathrooms, equipment storage space, a concession stand, and an Athletic Director’s office.
“We are thrilled to unveil this remarkable expansion, and we are grateful for the overwhelming support from our parishioners, the Archdiocese, community leaders, and esteemed guests who joined us in celebrating this momentous day,” commented Stephanie Clark, president of the Church of the Holy Resurrection, under whose tenure the construction was commenced and completed, earlier this year. “This project is a testament to our dedication to both our faith and our community, and we look forward to the positive impact it will have on the lives of those we serve.”
