Four-year-old Conifer is ready for a fresh start after his journey began in West Virginia. He’s prepared to pour on all the charm to meet his new family. How mesmerizing are his bright amber eyes? They’ll you in right into his heart!
As we head toward lavender season, please remember that it’s ALWAYS lavender season for Lavendula! This eight-month-old calico sprite has a delicate way of making introductions, but Animal League America promises you’ll be overwhelmed with delight for having made a spot for her in your home.
Adorable Nene was named for the state bird of Hawaii where she was born and raised by her dutiful mother. Together they forged a new life away from the harsh environment they’d survived, but illness separated her from her momma, ultimately leaving her to lean on her human caretakers. Now this charming 1 year old is easing into her new life with all the charisma she can muster, wooing everyone who visits her.
*Double Adoption* At first glance, seven-month-olds Makaha and Pukalani appear to be cautious in new situations but offering them some loving guidance will go a long way. These bonded survivors were born near the fire zone in Maui, and we can only imagine the fear they experienced before rescuers delivered them to safety. Now settling into a completely different lifestyle, the sisters may need reminders that their rough beginnings are distant memories, but playtime is a wonderful way to restore their confidence.
*Double Adoption* When five-year-old Penelope and Wednesday’s charmed life ended abruptly, Animal League America was there to pick up the pieces of their broken hearts and promise them a second chance. While Penelope is quick to open up while Wednesday is content to take a seat in a nearby bed and take everything in. A little chin rub is all these beautiful, bonded ladies need to assure them they’re furever safe in our care, until they meet their next wonderful family.
*Double Adoption* Looking for a pair of gorgeous yet humble one-year-old sisters to complete your home? Epoch and Esker arrived together from their Florida shelter with their hearts set on a fresh start. Epoch took a little side trip with our vets to make sure she’d be in tip-top shape for that next adventure. Once reunited, Esker reminded her that she’ll be by her side furever. These two have such a loving, gentle energy, always welcoming each other for a cuddle and visitors with grateful head bumps.
Everything tiny Vaquita does is with big energy. That’s a big part of the charm of this delightful two-year-old little lady who transported downstate from Animal League America’s sister shelter in Glen Falls when she needed help readying her and her kittens for adoption. She was a devoted momma to those babies and doesn’t mind standing up for herself. Most of the time you’ll catch her in many serene moments as a tiny treat-loving angel who wants her happily ever after. Vaquita brings so much humor mixed with tenderness to any room she enters and will definitely add a loving spark to her first real home. An experienced adopter in a calm home with older children will suit this lady best.
If you’re ready to open your heart and home to any of these fabulous felines, contact DoritS@animalleague.org or visit their Port Washington campus today!

*Senior Alert and Special Request* Meet Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pet of the Week, Peanut Butter! This adorable Dachshund mix is approximately ten years young and by all definitions, is absolutely perfect. Peanut Butter was living in a home with her people as an only child until her mom and dad welcomed a new baby. When the dynamic in the household changed, Peanut Butter’s family decided that managing an active toddler and a furry child was simply too much to handle. This poor baby was surrendered to the shelter through no fault of her own.
Peanut Butter is as delicious as her name… She adores being in the company of people and will not hesitate to greet new friends with hopes of receiving a good petting in return. This sweet girl has a fondness for snuggles and has a lot of unconditional love to give one lucky family. Peanut Butter’s ideal home can include a calm doggie sibling, possibly cats and kids preferably over the age of twelve. Little Peanut Butter deserves to have the happy ever after she was cheated out of. Let’s all help share Peanut Butter’s story, in hopes of giving her the very best life imaginable.
If you are interested in meeting Peanut Butter, please fill out an application to schedule a date/time to properly interact in a domestic setting, which includes the shelter’s Meet and Greet Room, dog runs, and Dog Walk trail. For more information, visit TownofSmithtownAnimalShelter.com

Mahomes, the 3-year-old terrier mix, was roaming the streets on a cold snowy morning. A bus driver saw him running loose and opened his door, and Mahomes jumped right in to stay warm. Mahomes is now safe and warm but needs a place to call home. This pup is a gentle soul who is shy, but with some baby-talk and tasty treats, he comes around after a bit and is as sweet as pie. Mahomes is still unsure of new things, like toys and fast movement and sometimes flinches if you move to quickly, but we are hopeful that with the right family and patience, this petite pup will come out of his shell and get to be the best dog he can be. At this time, due to his shy-ness, it is suggesting that he goes to a home with teens, 14 and up.
Saddie is an 8.5-year-old girl looking for a forever home. Saddie arrived after her owner was evicted and couldn’t take his cat with him. She arrived with 6 cats total, all of them are a little nervous at first but will warm up with a calm adult home. Saddie is living life in the shelters cattery space and is slowly making friends. She would continue to thrive in a calm adult home where she could have access to a cat tree to perch atop and watch the world go by. She gets a little over-stimulated, so she needs a home where she isn’t expected to be a lap cat (once she feels settled, this can change). She isn’t overly playful but doesn’t appear to be bothered by the other felines walking around.
For more information about Mahomes or Saddie, contact the shelter’s placement team at Adoption@hempsteadny.gov or call 516.785.5220 today!
