Summer is here, and your kids will probably be asking if they can have sleepovers with their friends.
You can now make it extra memorable for them courtesy of Magical Slumber Parties LLC, an Islip Terrace-based family company that will deck out your living room with themed tents, mattresses, pillows, and more.
It was founded two years ago, when Agata and Michael Sousa’s daughter, Sophia, who is now 11, wanted to have a slumber party.
“I always liked to do stuff like that,” Agata Sousa told the Press. “Decorating, doing all that fancy stuff. I was already doing balloon decorations, so when we did that, we decided to make it a business. Now, the business is growing, and we make the magic happen.”
In addition to the tents and mattresses, Magical Slumber Parties will also make themed balloon decorations, cupcakes, mugs and picnic tables. They’ll set it up for you, and come take it down the next day when the slumber party is over. They have over 25 different themes for your kids to choose from, with the most popular theme being Taylor Swift for girls. For boys, themes can include Mets or Yankees parties.
“That’s the biggest one right now, Taylor Swift,” Agata said. “We also do beach-themed parties, glow-in-the-dark, Boho-style, and more. First we had five tents, then we had 10 tents, now we have 40 tents.”
They provide this service to all of Long Island, from the East End all the way to Queens. It’s not just for kids, though – they put together adult slumber parties as well; Agata notes that they’ve provided tents and mattresses for bachelorette parties.
Agata, Michael, and Sophia do it all themselves, gathering the raw materials and making them into whatever the requested theme is.
“We banged out a couple of tents and it started to pay for itself after the first party and it also just seemed like something that we could do,” Michael Sousa, a retired NYPD narcotics detective, told the Press. “She got us incorporated and it went from there. From one party, a couple of kids there will want to have their own parties, and it keeps growing.”
