In June 1974, the local little league team, the Gulfprides, won the PYA Championship. To celebrate the championship’s 50th anniversary, some members of the Gulfprides gathered this June at Bryant and Cooper.
The little league team members brought the game ball to display on the table during the reunion. The team also celebrated their manager, Jim Vigillis.
Simon Klarides, former member of the Gulfprides, shared that Vigillis “was a role model for many of us, and we carried many of his lessons with us through our lives. We have passed them onto children we have coached as well.”
An article published in the Port Washington News from June 27, 1974, detailed the Championship win:
“The Little League town championship game last Saturday between the Glufprides and Knights of Columbus was a close and exciting contest right down to the last out, which left the Gulfprides ahead 6-5.”
