The Garden City Police Department is reminding residents to drive safely and plan ahead when celebrating the upcoming holidays.

This July Fourth Season, the Garden City Police Department and several other police departments in Nassau County will be participating in the “DWI Crackdown” Enforcement Initiative. The initiative targets intoxicated and drugged drivers on the roads.

The initiative is enhanced by funds from the Nassau County Traffic Safety STOP DWI Program, the New York State STOP DWI Coordinators Association and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

Police Commissioner Kenneth Jackson said, “During this initiative, Police Officers will monitor the Village’s roadways, strictly enforcing all DWI laws.”

The Garden City Police Department shared that, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), every day, about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes – that’s one person every 39 minutes. In 2022, 13,524 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths. These deaths were preventable.

The Garden City Police Department wishes everyone a safe and Happy Holiday. If you see someone who appears impaired or driving recklessly, call 911.
