The Manhasset Public Library has begun its Summer Hours, but continues to host programs for all ages. The library will now be closed on Sunday from July 7 through September 1. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the library’s programming this summer to beat the heat and meet new, like-minded individuals.

The current hours are as follows: Mondays from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m – 9:00 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Fridays from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The recent change in hours will not affect programming. The Children’s Room, Teen Zone and Adult/Reference Room will continue to function normally during these new hours.

The Children’s Center continues to host programming for young kids of all ages. Their “Fun for Littles” programs are geared towards babies and toddlers. In these programs, children will engage in sensory play, like experimenting with bubbles, listening to music and moving.

In July, babies and toddlers have programs like Baby Start classes, PreK Play Dough Storytimes and Toddler Time Sessions. These programs are a great way to introduce young children to the library.

In addition to classes for “Littles,” the library hosts events for children in grades Kindergarten through Sixth in the Children’s Room as well. Events for older children include Minecraft Gaming Sessions, Discovery Storytimes, Arts & Crafts classes, board game nights and Summer Reading activities.

Teens (grades 7-12) are encouraged to take advantage of their programs as well. There are cooking classes, performances and volunteer opportunities for older students at the library.

Adult programming continues to offer a variety of classes, including exercise programs, Arts & Crafts and book discussions. Adult craft projects recently include the cherry blossom lattice class. Ongoing programs include needle work, Chinese calligraphy and paint nights. Book clubs meet regularly as well, and newcomers are encouraged to join.

The library hosts live music events for all ages as well. On July 1, Matt the Music Man performed for babies and toddlers. Singer Matt Marshak curates an interactive, high-energy and family-friendly performance for Littles.

On Sunday, June 30, the library welcomed Carols Pavan. Pavan is a musician and composer who lives in Brooklyn. He has played at famous venues such as Lincoln Center, New York City Center, New England Conservatory Jordan Hall, among others, and he performed at the Manhasset Public Library last month.

The library has since begun its summer hours and will not be open on Sundays due to the schedule change. The library will resume its regular hours in September and will continue to host its weekly Sunday performances.
