Julie Ugarte, a passionate advocate for preserving her town’s history, recently started a petition on Change.org to declare Peppercorns of Hicksville a historic landmark. In just three days, her petition has garnered nearly 1,000 signatures.
Peppercorns of Hicksville, known by many as an old firehouse, holds a special place in the hearts of the community. “It is disheartening to see our shared history slipping away like sand through our hands,” she said. Since its move across the street in 1932, it has served as a warm restaurant and a gathering place for generations. However, like many other historic buildings in Hicksville, it is currently under threat of commercialization and potential demolition.
“It’s more than just a building; instead, it’s a symbol of our resilience, unity, and evolution as a community,” said Julie. “Let’s stand up for our shared history. It’s time to safeguard our last remaining historical edifice and ensure it remains to tell its tale along with ours. Sign the petition today, urging the authorities to declare Peppercorns of Hicksville a historic landmark.”
